In January, my best friend Jelisa and I had a tarot reading in Seattle while on vacation. We diligently recorded the sessions and took notes. Each month since, she and I have gotten our notes out and said "What's in store for this month?” and let's just say 2020 is NOT cooperative…for the most part. I mean…where is my big love affair and why are Jelisa and I not far more spiritually enlightened by now?
(I blame Covid-19…or Trump…or maybe Murder Hornets!)
My tarot reading for July was all about big ideas, creativity and energy. It was the month I said “Yes!” and the Universe showed up big time. The month I planted my feet firmly and started making plans for my dreams (whatever the hell they are).
Well…kinda.
July was a month filled with a lot of personal silence. I couldn't write or journal. My sessions with Ali (my therapist) were vaguely familiar…same old issues, different week/month/year. I found myself pulling away from some people who couldn't be trusted anymore.
Late in the month, I looked up and surveyed the landscape of humanity and realized “Yup. Not just me. Everyone is over it.” 2020 has really jumped the shark (typing that sentence feels like a bad idea…there are after all still 5 months left for 2020 to try to one up itself.)
But despite the madness (and quite frankly the tears) of July, I feel that inspiration and dreaming did hit me at the very end of the month. This first newsletter is my taking one tiny step towards saying “yes” more often and removing any excuses keeping me from co-creating the life I want.
July's Good News:
We launched our 2021 company strategy at Tourlane! (Thank you Working Backwards Press Release!)
I had the joy of being interviewed for a Product Management podcast
David Whyte's poetry series "3 Sundays in July” was worth every single penny! (Another opportunity for 3 Sundays in September is coming up!)
I finished a grad school course on Leadership and Imagination which was inspiring in many ways
I finished some great books including:
How to be Champion by Sarah Millican
The Dragons The Giant The Women by Wayétu Moore
Redhead by the Side of the Road by Anne Tyler
A Black Women's History of the United States by Daina Ramey Berry and Kali Nicole Gross
Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid
The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick
Each of these books had their own charms…but everyone should read "The Dragons The Giant The Women” by Wayétu Moore. It's a memoir of loss, hardship and ultimately great love. And every American I know should read Berry and Gross’ book on the history of black women in the US. It's so insightful and the stories are heartbreaking AND inspiring.
Happy August People!
Don't hesitate to reach out if I can be of help or support or inspiration!
