Since quitting my job and beginning to focus on Coaching and Consulting full time, I’ve gotten two responses:
People who excitedly say something like…”You were made for this!” or “It’s about time! You have so much to offer.”
ORNervous scrunched faces that say something along the lines of…”So you are really going to do this FULL time?”
Mostly I just laugh the scrunched faces off, but sometimes the doubt sneaks in. It’s as though the 2nd camp has been speaking to the skeptic in my head who likes to sit nearby, with her own scrunched face, saying in her whispery cancer voice “Are we sure about this?”
I am. I really am sure about it. Especially when I’m coaching or working with teams. In those moments I’m alive and certain. When I’m partnering with someone to break down their limiting beliefs and help them find ways to not let doubt hold them back…I’m electric. When I’m brainstorming next steps to get to a great Product Strategy…all the cylinders fire!
It’s the other moments…chasing leads, learning other coaching methods, or doing the bookkeeping that bring in the noise. Because as sure as I am about being a coach, I also know building a business is not simple or easy. I know about the ups and downs and only I can sit with those in the wee hours.
So what do I do?
I turn to my community.
My friends and family who love me and are cheering me on. My classmates in the Coaching Certification course with whom I practice each week. My mentors, who are always willing to hand out advice and remind me who I am
.And I turn to my best self:
I articulate my goals and desired outcomes with clarity each day, just as I would a member of my team
I remind myself that I’m in the midst of a significant change and make sure I am looking at it with a growth mindset
I write myself a permission slip to be curious…curious about any fear, curious about what I need to learn, curious about the future
I make sure to plan for fun and learning while the sun is shining outside
And I never stop exploring the world around me. I enjoy the long days and the variety of ways I can learn and grow in each new season
If you are in the middle of something new, just know, SO IS YOUR COACH! :)
And I am here for all of it…with vulnerability, training, curiosity, and love.
xx,
Leah
PS. Special thank you to David Hijirida for buying me breakfast in Notting Hill and brainstorming with me. I hope I was as helpful to you as you were to me!
Quite interesting to read your journey. Thank you for sharing with such generosity and grace!
